Award-Winning Journalist Pens YA Novel

Author Susan Zeidler is an award-winning journalist for Reuters News service who has always kept a foot in the creative world.  In her new YA book, Flying Through Music, Zeidler steps out of the reporting world tapping into her creative energy to write a story that can be described as “time-traveler’s wife  meets Harry Potter.”

Flying through Music chronicles the story of Zoey Browne, a 15-year-old “musiator”—a combination of a musician and aviator—who can transport herself back in time by playing piano. Zoey, to whom readers were first introduced in Zeidler’s book, The Practice Room, is spending the summer on tour with her rock star father.

When Zoey’s friend, Nathan, mysteriously disappears mid-air at the annual air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Zoey sets out to solve the mystery of his disappearance by “musi-morphing” back in time. She discovers the strong connection between musicians and air disasters  upon realizing that the people responsible for Nathan’s disappearance are trying to send him to the same fate that musicians like Glenn Miller, Buddy Holly, and Stevie Ray Vaughan all faced.

During her mission to find out what happened to Nathan, Zoey must confront danger when her time traveling lands her in a Nazi concentration camp and must come to terms with the personal issues every teenager faces: defining her relationship with her father, who she has just met three years earlier, and falling in love.  It is an impossible-to-put-down story that will leave readers anxious for the release of Zeidler’s third book, on which she is currently working.

Flying Through Music is a fast-paced story with engaging characters, interwoven with historical and musical details presented in a fun, compelling manner. This unbeatable combination is certain to win over readers of all ages.
